MATT CORBY - MIRACLE LOVE
I actually discovered Matt Corby pretty late, and it was thanks to an artist that submitted a song a couple of years ago for playlist and blog consideration. There’s a field in some submission platforms where artists can put their influences or similar artists, and I remember reading the similar artists for that particular submission and thinking “Looks like this artist’s influences overlap pretty well with my editorial line”, but there was one name there that didn’t sound familiar: Matt Corby.
Couldn’t help but to follow the thread. A minute later I was already digging into his music, and pretty soon I stumbled upon this song, which struck me immediately. “Miracle Love” is probably the most immersive song in my library.
The track starts and right away it’s like falling into this big mass of water, time slows down and your body slowly sinks. Just like in the movies. And you don't even try to move as deep down you know that this was inevitable, that this is how it's supposed to be.
The song has a strong circular component, and it's incredible how the artist can convey such a fascinating song development with a chord progression that barely gets altered throughout the song. There are some harmony changes, but subtle enough to always maintain the main chord progression’s essence, not letting go of the listener for a second from the song's intense current.
It breathes and you can feel its galloping heartbeat with that captivating half-time shuffle, growing in intensity, getting stronger, spiraling like a whirlpool and dragging you deeper into its waters until you no longer see the surface and time slows down again for good.
Just put on a pair of headphones and let yourself be carried away.
